This volume is a collection of academic studies by linguist and ethnographer Johann Andreas Sjogren (1794-1855), who accepted a Russian name - Andrei Mikhailovich Shengren. He compiled the first academic grammar of Ossetian, and laid the basis for studying other languages of the peoples of the Northern Caucasus.
