One exciting moment in the recent history of post-Soviet Russia was the declaration of independence by the Ural Republic in 1993. According to the author of this brochure, the motive behind this action was not separatist or secessionist intentions, but a desire to gain partial economic self-reliance and by that means to increase living standards in the region. The Ural Republic existed less than a year, but it stimulated changes in the articles that regulate the relationship between the federal center and the members of the Russian Federation in the 1993 Constitution. Leont’ev also analyzes Putin`s recent reforms of the government structure and concludes that they further centralize power, and do not help to solve regional problems. Bibliography.
