This is a collection of four articles about Ivan the Terrible as a religious type: The Image of Ivan the Terrible in soviet historiography; Arguments on faith between Ivan the Terrible and Antonio Possevino; The Idea of world theocracy in late Byzantium; Theory of "epanogoga" on imperial and patriarchal authority and its transformation in Old Rus. This book is the author`s answer to the recent attempts to canonize Ivan the Terrible as a saint. Also included are seven other materials related to the idea of the canonization of Ivan the Terrible. Aleksandr Dvorkin (b. 1955), a Professor at St. Tikhon Russian Orthodox Institute, received a religious education at New York University, St. Vladimir`s Seminary (Crestwood, NY), and Fordham University (NY), returned to Russia in 1991.
