About one thousand Russians were educated in German universities in 1698-1849. About one fourth of them became well known Russian statesmen, writers, scholars, professors, soldiers, and doctors. Altogether the German graduates inculcated in Russian culture a taste for "G?ttingen`s soul" and "Berlin`s philosophy". This book is about these Russian students, the German universities they studied in, and the cultural significance of this experience.
