Simeon Polotskii (Samuil Emel`ianovich Petrovskii-Sitnianovich, 1629-1680) was born in the town of Polotsk. He met the Russian Tsar Aleksei Mikhailovich in 1656. In 1661 Simeon moved to Moscow and became a translator and teacher of Latin for Russian government officers (pod`iachie). He took part in a discussion with the leader of the Russian Old Believers Archpriest Abakum Petrov (1621-1682). This book is a collection of his poetry, speeches and dramas.
