This is the twenty-third volume in the series on the folklore of the peoples of Siberia and the Far East. The collection includes texts of forty-two pieces of Nenets foklore. The Nenets are the most numerous among the aboriginal peoples of the Russian Far North. This people belongs to the Finn-Ugric language group. They lived under a tribal system until the 1930s. The principal religion was Shamanism. Genres of Nenets folklore include: myths, etiological and cosmogonical legends, fairy tales, epic songs, drinking songs, Shamanic chants, children`s song-teaser, and more. All of them are presented in this volume. It includes both new materials and previously published, but not widely available material. Indices, bibliography, comments. English summary. Parallel text in Nenets and Russian. Previous volumes from the series are also available.
