Anzer is one of the islands of the Solovetsk Archipelago in the White Sea. It was a place known for its spirit of strict religious aceticism, purity and peace. Since the 16th century it was populated by hermits seeking solitude and silence. One of the first sketes, a small and secluded monastery was founded by Eleazar who was known as copier of religious manuscripts and the author of his own books. This book includes a biographical essay about Eleazar as well as his own works and hagiographic works of the 18th century about him. The Eleazar biography is prepared and commented by S.K.
