Language: РусскийAleksandr Benkendorf (1783-1844) was a member of Emperor Aleksandr the First`s headquarters (Imperatorskaia Glavnaia Kvartira) during the Patriotic War against La Grande Armee of Napoleon I (Bonaparte). Later he was the commander of a division. His division liberated several cities of the Netherlands in 1813. This is a reprint of two fragments, published for the first time in a hundred years, about little known facts of the military campaigns of 1812-1814. The supplement includes Benkendorf`s letters to Count M. Vorontsov. All these documents together portray the general, usually known only as a prosecutor of Decembrists, as an outstanding soldier and statesman. Parallel text in French and Russian. Extensive commentary.
