Zalman L`vovich Amitin-Shapiro(1893—1968) was a soviet orientalist, historian, and ethnographer, who wrote several works on the history of Bukharan Jews, one of the ethnic groups of Central Asia. This work, first published in 1913, not only presents the prerevolutionary history of this ethnic group, but also reflects on the early national policy of the soviet government.
