This is the first translation into Russian of several works (chapters) by an American specialist on the economic history of Russia at the end of the 19th - Beginning of 20th centuries. His main conclusions from his analysis of statistical materials are that the level of economic growth of the Russian empire before WWI was higher than has been traditionally estimated and comparable with those of the leading European countries; that Russia was integrated into the world economy a great deal. The author provides the statistical data with extensive comments and discusses some issues of Russian economic development in that period.
