This is the first work in Russian ethnopsychology which deals with stable ethnopsychological features or constants of the Russian ethnos and its traditional consciousness. The field, Svetlana Lur`e works in, lies on the intersection of ethnography, anthropology, psychology, and history. The author applies her approach to analyze fundamentals and evolution of ideas of Russians about government and of self-regulation in Russian communities (obshchina), their relations between Russians and the peoples of the Caucasus.
