This work of professor of Church history of Moscow University Aleksei Lebedev (1845-1908) is quite different from all his other works and from the whole tradition of studying the Russian Orthodox Church in his time. The subject of the book is not the history of the Church itself but the history of studying this history: how the history of the Church was interpreted by historians of Europe and Russia.
