This monograph considers the negative aspects of "nations` rapproachment". The author discovers a paradoxical fact: that inter-nation tensions may grow up in a situation of democratization and freedom of expression of national interests. This socially negative effect of "rapproachment" was envisaged by the program when the research was launched. This publication sums up the results of studies conducted in 1999-2002, and compares them with data of a similar nature collected at the beginning of the 1990s. The author comes to interesting conclusions about the changes that have happened to the social status and structure of different ethnoses of the Russian Federation, in their educational and cultural level, in relations among one another, migration, and social and political orientations. English summary (pp. 190-206).
