This is the first comprehensive review about deposits of gems in the Transbaikal Area, including the Republic of Buryatia and Chita Oblast. The monograph contains the history of gem deposit discovery, research and exploitation, description of geological conditions of localization and formation, forecast of resources of the most important kinds of raw materials, and their rational use. The typomorphic and gemnological properties of beryl are studied. The author, a well known Russian mineralogist and author of eleven monographs, describes the main principles and criteria of mineral bodies estimation of faceting crystals, and shows that the Transbaikal area is the one of the main sources of the Earth’s gem palette.
