This monograph deals with the philosophy of history and utopianism in Russia during the Enlightenment. The author analyzes historical works and utopias by Catharine II, Ivan Elagin, Vasilii Levshin, Mikhail Murav`ev, Mikhail Shcherbatov, Matvei Kheraskov, and Vladimir Odoevskii. The set of their theoretical positions is presented in a systematic way. These archetypes were formulated by the thinkers at a time when a new vision of history emerged. The closeness between utopianism and social philosophy was typical for the Russian mentality of that time, and therefore the glorious past was often interpreted as a prerequisite of the bright future. Many of the texts on which this work is based on are studied for the first time. Name index. Also available is another book of the same author: Istoriia Metafisiki v Rossii XVIII Veka (1996).
