The Yakut Olonkho is a genre of an early archaic epos. This monograph studies the plots of Olonkho about the defenders of the Sakha tribe. Emel`ianov traces the evolution of these plots and the Yakut epic genre in general. Two trends are discovered: a decrease of mythological and fairytale components and an increase of heroic and historical components in oral epics. N. Emel`ianov was one of the compilers of the Yakut heroic epos: Moguchii Er Sogotokh in the series Pamiatniki Fol`klora Narodov Sibiri i Dal`nego Vostoka and the author of several books on the subject.
