Preservation of the old Siberian wooden churches is part of the religious revival in Russia. Building of a great number of new churches has begun, and communities are seeking for sources and advice on how to follow ancient traditions. This book is meant to fill the gap in cultural memory. It investigates Siberian wooden churches of the 17th-18th centuries and contains analysis of their symbolism, phenomenology, and morphology. Three churches built in 1621-1679 in the Siberian cities of Tobol`sk, Tomsk and Ilimsk were chosen for this study. The author is an architect, ethnographer, and restorerr. Richly illustrated.
