Nikolai Tal’berg (1886-1967), a prominent official in the Ministry of Internal Affairs, emigrated from Russia after the Bolshevik Revolution, and became a well known historian of the Russian Church. He wrote essays on the Russian Emperors and Empresses from Catherine II to Nicholas II. This book includes his portrait of Aleksandr the First (1801-1825).
