This monograph deals with the consequences of human activity on the natural environment and human beings. The authors attempts to extend and systemize traditional views on estimating these consequences. They also calculated the indices of cross impact of such systems of vital human activity as natural environment, economy, level of technology, social sphere using the Baikal region as an example. A new method for comprehensive quantitative analysis of the economic impact on regional ecological stability is suggested. According to the authors, this approach permits objective detection of "bottlenecks" in a system with the aim of choosing effective measures for the achievement of ecological-economic stability. 43 tables, 9 drawings, bibliography (99 titles).
