Aleksandr Glezer, poet and art collector, became known as one of the organizers of unauthorized exhibitions of Russian avant-garde or unofficial art in Russia in the late 1960s - early 1970s. Culmination of this activity was the Izmailovo exhibition which was broken up by bulldozers on KGB order in September 1974. The book is a history of the Russian avant-garde movement told by an insider. Later A. Glezer created two museums of Russian Modern Art abroad.
