Pilgrimage to Jerusalem was reflected in many stories and paintings. The wholly engraved book of Zhefarovich and Simonovich, first published in Vienna in 1748, soon came to Russia and became the most popular book about the holy city among Russian Christians. The illustrations from this book inspired numerous Russian Lubok and icons. The first chapter contains the history of the Vienna and Russian publications of "Description of Jerusalem". Chapter two is about European prints and Russian Lubok, as well as a catalog of them in Russian collections. 22 black and white illustration.
