His Imperial Majesty’s personal escort, the Russian Horse Guards, were a privileged division of the Russian army. People of various ethnic backgrounds were recruited for this division. The division participated in all the major military campaigns of the 19th century. This book tells the history of one battalion of Russian Guards before and after 1917, the only part of the Russian Army that stayed a military division in emigration. It includes a complete list of the escort Cossack officers, biographical sketches of over one hundred of them, and descriptions of their uniforms. This book was published abroad in 1961 and became a rare book. Comments. Richly illustrated.
