This book is a collection of essays about the poetry of the Nobel prize winning Russian poet Iosif Brodskii (d. 1996) written in the 1970-90s. It is intended for a poetic audience, rather than for professional philologists. It is rather a slow reading of Brodskii`s poetry. Leonid Batkin (b. 1932) is a well-known Russian philosopher, specialist in Renaissance, and essayist.
