This monograph covers a problem which is insufficiently explored in Yakut and Russian literature. The author analyzes the main trends in the Yakut poetry of the twentieth century, particularly the genre system, in comparison with so called classic genres in Russian literature and the literature of other languages on the territory of the Russian Federation: Bashkir, Buryat, etc. Maksimova describes the evolution of Yakut poetic genres, and their typological conformity with the historical and literary process. The connections made between folklore and literature help the author to find typological similarities in the genre structure of different literatures. The appendices play a special role: they include a detailed annotation of the 1930s poetry almanacs, chronology and typology of 270 poems published from 1900 to 1990s. Summary and contents in English.
