A. V. Kolchak (1873-1920) is best known as a leader of the White cause. In 1918-19 the White Army with the help of the Entente allies successfully overturned Soviet power in the Far East, and created a short lived Far Eastern Republic with its headquarters in Omsk, led by admiral A.V. Kolchak. Previous to the revolution as a Russian Polar explorer, Kolchak participated in the expedition of 1900-1903 as hydrologist, cartographer, hydrochemist, and magnetologist.
