Language: RussianAleksandr Ivanov (1806-1858) came to the history of Russian art as the author of the monumental painting The Appearance of Christ to the People (1833-1857). This painting was a part of his project of the new Church of Christ The Savior to commemorate the 25th anniversary of Nicholas the First in 1846. Ivanov also wrote a manifesto for the Emperor in which he stated his religious and political views.
