This book is a kind of diary of the Mankind. It consists of thirteen chapters corresponding to different global sections of the historical continuum separated by 250 years: from the beginning of Antiquity in the days of Homer to the start of the Modern world in the days of Columbus and its apotheosis in the 20th century. Each chapter gives a broad picture of peoples, states and civilizations playing their roles on the world stage according to their cultural background and to their ecological vicinity, consisting of the natural landscape and of the human partners nearby. The author invites us to compare our driving forces with those that drove our ancestors ages ago and to learn how they dealt with historical challenges, managing to survive and produce a brave new world in any crisis passed by Mankind.
