The end of the 16th century was a time of large scale settling of Siberia by Russians through the migration of peasants, the military, and industrial professionals. This volume is about the history of Russian settlements in Yakutia which is based on the results of excavations in two ostrogs (fortresses) in the basins of two rivers, Alazeia and Kolyma.
