Fedor Afanas`evich Kurganov (1844-1920) was a professor at the Imperial Kazan Ecclesiastic Academy. This book is based on his doctoral thesis. It studies the relations between the Church and civil power in the Byzantine Empire in the epoch of the formation and final establishment of their relationship (325-565). It describes the “Byzantine model" of these relations, which became the model for the Russian Orthodox Church until the present.
