Magadan was for many years one of the largest centers of Stalin`s Gulag in the Far North (Kolyma). Among its stars were artists persecuted during the Great terror: Vadim Kozin, G. Katsman, V. Miagkov, Eddy Rozner, and L. Varpakhovskii. The theater started as the Gulag theater, and continues its traditions.
