This is the first comprehensive reference book on The All Russian Assembly, a constitutional body convened in Russia after the October Revolution of 1917. It is generally recognized as the first democratically elected legislative body of any kind in Russian history. It met for 13 hours, from 4 p.m. to 5 a.m., 18–19 January [O.S. 5–6 January] 1918, whereupon it was dissolved. This encyclopedia includes entries on the history of preparation of the Assembly, data of general and local elections, list of contenders, the institutions and legal norms it was based on, biographical sketches and more.
