This is an ethnographic and historic study of the Kamchatka peninsula and its habitants, Itelmen-Kamchadals. The author describes their culture and economy, work and leisure traditions, means of moving, arts, etc. The monograph completed by E. Orlova (1899-1976) in 1976 is published for the first time. The book is illustrated with unique pictures taken in 1909-1911 by scholars from the Kamchatka expedition of the Imperial Russian Geographic Society as well as with pictures made in the 1960s. Commentary, bibliography. Supplements include Itelmen tales, commentary, maps and photoalbum.
