This volume of Studia Ethnologica is prepared by scholars from two schools: Karelian Institute of the University of Joensuun (Finland) and the European University at St. Petersburg, School of Ethnology. The Paris peace treaty of 1947 left some of the Finnish territories to the USSR, in particular the Karelian region of the Ladoga River and the Karelian Isthmus. This volume studies the process of migration into these territories during and after WWII. It is based on 83 interviews with soviet migrants and covers the history of migration and ethnic characteristic of the new population.
