Kazan is the capital of Tatarstan and, being founded in 1177 AD, one of the oldest Russian cities. Recent archeological excavations in the Kazan Kremlin produced a vast amount of new historical information, some of which has been published. Fragments of Russian chronicles related to Kazan, the 16th century “Kazan History” by an unknown author, “Kazan Journals”, writings by S. Gerbershtein, A. Kurbski, and modern historians are published as well.
