One of the results of the Petrine reforms was elimination of the Russian Orthodox Patriarchy and some freedoms granted perviously to Cossacks ("vol`nosti"), including religious freedom from the Russian Church. This monograph studies the triangle of political fight. Cossacks fought for political independence from the imperial policy and the canonical discipline imposed by the Russian Church. The other two opposing sides of the triangle are also studied in detail: Petr I against the Church and the Church against the Cossacks. Bibliography.
