One of the greatest monuments of ancient Russian literature is published in Old-Slavonic with a parallel translation in modern Russian and a detailed commentary. In a well founded introduction the author defines more precisely the date of the Oration’s composition (1038) in connection with two significant anniversaries: the 50th anniversary of Rus’s Christening and the quincentenary of the consecration of St. Sophia Cathedral of Constantinople, and gives a new interpretation of its literary genre and fundamental ideas and topics.
