Dmitrii Travin (b. 1961), a 2003 Golden Pen award winner, a columnist and assistant to the editor-in-chief of the economic periodical "Delo", is also the research director of the Center for Modernization Studies at the European University (St. Petersburg). This book is a collection of his essays on the transition period from the soviet administrative system to the market economy and democratic institutions. The author described the main decisions and changes the country went through, and the leaders who made these decisions.
