This is a course of lectures on the history of the historical science in the twentieth century. The author describes the main historical theories and philosophical approaches to the study of history. Special attention is paid to the understanding of history of Friedrich Nietzsche, Nikolai Danilevskii, Max Weber, Nikolai Berdiaev, Johann Huizenga, the Eurasians, Oswald Spengler, and Arnold Toynbee. Mogil`nitskii relates that the first methodological crisis in the historical sciences started at the end of the nineteenth century, and the second after WWII. The second volume describes the renovation of the methodology of historical studies, and turning it into the science of history. Most of it is about the French school of historical thought, Annals and its leaders, as well as about other new directions of modern neo-positivist and Euro-Marxist historiography.
