This book is based on materials of the international conference "The Metner Family and the Culture of the Silver Age". The Metner brothers made an important contribution to Russian culture. The oldest brother Emil` Metner (Medtner) (1872-1936) was a central figure in the movement of the Russian symbolists at the beginning of the 20th century. He was mentor and impresario for his brother, the Russian composer Nikolai Metner, and a close friend of an ideologue of the Russian Symbolists, Andrei Belyi. The middle brother, Aleksandr (1877-1961) was viola player, orchestra director and composer. Nikolai (1879-1951) was an outstanding composer ranked with S. Rakhmaninov and A. Skriabin. This collection deals with the role and place of N. Metner in Russian and world music. Also available: Iunggren, Magnus. Russkii Mefistofel`: Zhizn` i Tvorchestvo Emilia Metnera (2001).
