In 1879 Leo Tolstoi, at the height of his literary fame, experienced an emotional crisis which turned his life inside out. From that time on he tried to look for new spiritual paths and devoted the last 30 years of his life to this search. His main companion in this search was Vladimir Chertkov (d. 1936). The second half of Tolstoi`s life ended, like the first one, in deep emotional crisis. This book by a priest G.L. Orekhanov is about the role of Chertkov in L. Tolstoi`s life. Also available on this subject: Osterman, L.A. Srazhenie za Tolstogo (2002); Muratov, M.V. L.N. Tolstoy and V.G. Chertkov: Through Their Correspondence (2002). (0.245 kg.)
