Ol`ga Aleksandrovna Tolstoi-Voeikov, a noble woman born in city of Simbirsk, wrote 189 letters to her children who found themselves in emigration in Manchuria (China) in 1927-1930. These letters give some idea what kind of everyday life soviet people had in these years, and what kind of troubles they went through in the period called the "great break": old style of life was dismantled and replaced with Bolshevik norms of life. The author, a well educated woman who spoke four languages, and who loved to write letters, left detailed and interesting observations of a new reality. Comments.
