The story of the soviet boy-hero Pavlik Morozov created by official propaganda and later literature is very much different from the real story of the Morozov family and in particular their son Pavlik. The author studies the history of the myth and its propagandistic role in the history of collectivization in the Ural villages in early 1930s. This myth and the history of its formation helps to understand how soviet cult figures were created and what purpose they served. Though this is not the first book on the subject, it is based on more recent archive materials and contains a more accurate version of the factual events. 34 illustrations. Bibliography.
