Arina Rodionovna Iakovleva (Matveeva; 1758-1828) is the most famous Russian nanny. She took care of small Alexander Pushkin, and by feeding his imagination with native folklore, she inspired him to write his most read tales and poems. This book by well known Pushkinist Mikhail Filin reconstructs her image and life story, based somewhat on a very few reliable materials, but mostly on memoirs by Pushkin and his visitors. Appendices, bibliography, name index.
