This is the first academic biography of Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn (b. 1918) written on the basis of archive documents, and conversations with Solzhenitsyn and his family members. His biography covers the Great Patriotic War, prisons and camps, the Nobel Prize and the persecutions, which ended in his exile from the USSR. 20 years spent in emigration did not destroy his connection with the Motherland.
