This monograph studies the conflicts inside the Russian Orthodox Church in the second half of 1920s-1930s. The author analyzes positions of three hierarchs on the succession of power in the Russian Orthodox Church: mitropolitans Kirill (Smirnov), Agafangel (Preobrazhenskii) and Petr (Polianskii). All of them were named in the will of patriarch Tikhon. One of the most significant conflicts was the confrontation of mitropolitan Sergii (Starogorodskii), the actual head of the Church at that time, with the so called "right" opposition. This book is based on previously unknown documents and other sources. Biographical sketches, bibliography, name index.
