The "Black Hundred" movement (1905-1917), including several parties and organizations (Kadets, Soiuz Osvobozhdeniia, etc.), is interpreted by the author as a conservative union of sound national forces opposing destructive liberal and revolutionary tendencies. The Revolution is used in the book as a synonym for the historic cataclysm which shook Russia in the 20th century. Kozhinov (1930- 2001), historian, philosopher and writer, represents his version of the movement, their political and social role, the history of their persecution and a new view of the 1917 revolution. The last chapter discusses the problems of the Byzantine and Mongolian legacy in Russian history.
