In comparison with other "ideological" institutions, the St. Petersburg Institute of History of the Russian Academy of Sciences was relatively free from political campaigns and purges by the standards of the sadly known 1937. However, the secret police found good grounds for the well known historian Vladimir Kashin (1890-1938) to be arrested and shot in 1938. "He did not glorify enough Stalin`s role in the soviet history" and he was a Menshevik in his past. This book includes documents about the life and death of V.N. Kashin. About one third of the book is taken by minutes of the meeting in his institute where his colleagues were forced to accuse Kashin of his deadly sins.
