Language: RussianThe story "Ispoved" raised a lot of disputes in the press more then any other work by M. Gorkii. Its main theme was the search for and discovery of God. This story was considered as an artistic failure of Maxim Gor`kii in official soviet literary criticism, because it was inspired by philosophical ideas of A.A. Bogdanov which were severely criticized by Vl. Lenin. The current monograph studies Gor`kii`s personal philosophy in the mid 1990s, his position in the argument between "bogostroiteli" (Gor`kii, V. Bazarov, A. Lunacharskii) and "bogoiskateli" (D. Merezhkovskii, D.V. Philosophov, etc). The author also compares two "Ispovedi": by Leo Tolstoi and M. Gor`kii. Bibliographical references.
