This book is a collection of essays about Jewish settlers at Erets Israel, a poor, little populated province of the Ottoman Empire, from the beginning of the 19th century to WWI. Feliks Kandel`, an engineer by education, came to literary work in 1963. He is the author of the beloved Russian cartoon "Nu, pogodi!", stories, and several works on the history of the Jewish people, including Kniga Vremen i Sobytii: Istoriia Rossiiskikh Evreev: V Chetyrehh Knigakh, Trekh Tomakh (2002-2004).
