This book is an anthology of documents, modern studies and memoirs on the history of hermits on Anzer Island, one of the Solovki Archipelago, in the 16th-17th centuries. The Solovki monastery, created in the 15th century, became a center of Church dissent (raskol), the Great Schism in the Russian Orthodox Church in 17th century. The collection is the first attempt to describe the "metaphysics of Solovki" or the "Solovki myth". This book-album was prepared by Sergei Morozov (1951-2000), a Japan specialist by education, who spent the last 15 years of his life on the island of Solovki as a museum researcher and editor of the newspaper Solovetskii Vestnik. Illustrated with old engravings and maps. Includes a chronology of the main events of the Solovki Archipelago starting with the 15th century.
